Monday, March 10

A Day of Community Recognition & Support

Today kicks off #LongCOVIDAwarenessWeek. Long COVID has impacted millions of lives, creating a crisis that has been ignored for too long. Five years into this pandemic, there are still no approved treatments or cures, and many affected individuals continue to face medical gaslighting, economic hardship, and systemic neglect. Today, we stand together to recognize and uplift the voices of those living with Long COVID, the caregivers who support them, and the advocates fighting for change.

This day is about more than just acknowledgment—it’s about visibility, connection, and collective action. Every story shared, post made, and action taken strengthens our movement and reminds the world that we are still here, we are still suffering, and we will not be ignored.

By uniting today, we shine a light on the realities of Long COVID and the urgent need for continued research, protections, and policy changes. Our community has carried this fight for too long, often without the support of institutions that should have prioritized our health and well-being. But through collective advocacy, we will demand better, push for accountability, and ensure that Long COVID is no longer dismissed.

Take action today to make a difference. Share your story through a video, picture, or demonstration-style post to help educate and advocate. Show solidarity by changing your profile picture or adding a Long COVID Awareness 2025 frame. Join #LongCOVIDMassFollow to expand our network and amplify patient voices. Help improve healthcare by emailing a clinician about Long COVID and contributing to the COVID Competent Providers List to highlight supportive doctors or flag dismissive ones. Take a moment to thank an advocate or organization working tirelessly to drive awareness, policy change, and research. Finally, donate to C19LAP to sustain advocacy, research, and policy efforts to ensure that Long COVID remains a priority.

Long COVID is not rare—it is a public health crisis, an economic disaster, and a disability rights issue. We cannot afford to be ignored. Together, we must raise our voices, uplift one another, and fight for the resources, protections, and care that we deserve.

A Day for Recognizing the Failures or Successes of Government Response

Today, we highlight the failures and successes of government response to Long COVID. Five years in, millions remain without treatments, protections, or the necessary support to recover and live with dignity. While some progress has been made, many affected individuals continue to face policy inaction, lost benefits, lack of research funding, and systemic neglect.

This day is about holding leadership accountable and demanding that Long COVID is recognized as the urgent public health crisis it is. Every email sent, letter written, and post shared reminds policymakers that we will not be silent and we will not be ignored.

By uniting today, we emphasize the dire need for continued federal and state action. The decisions made by government officials directly impact the lives of millions with Long COVID—whether through continued research funding, public health protections, or disability accommodations. Our community cannot afford policy stagnation or program rollbacks. We need sustained action, not empty promises.

Take action today to demand change. Complete our 30-second Action Network tool to contact the President, Vice President, Congress, Governors, and state legislators, educating them and pushing for immediate action on Long COVID. After completing this action, send a personalized letter to their offices, sharing your story, needs, and policy demands. Post about how government actions—or inaction—have impacted you and why Long COVID programs and initiatives are essential for public health and disability rights. Donate to C19LAP to support policy reform, public health initiatives, and patient-led advocacy efforts that ensure our voices are heard and real change is made.

Long COVID is not just a health issue—it is a policy failure, a public health crisis, and a disability rights issue. We must keep the pressure on, demand accountability, and push for the protections, funding, and leadership we deserve.

A day for Recognizing Children & Caregivers
Impacted by Long COVID

Long COVID affects people of all ages, including children and adults, yet caregivers—whether parents, family members, partners, or medical providers—often go unrecognized for the essential role they play. Caregivers provide medical, emotional, and financial support, often sacrificing their own well-being while navigating a healthcare system that fails to acknowledge the severity of Long COVID.

Today, we highlight the needs of both children and adults with Long COVID and the caregivers who support them. Many caregivers have had to leave jobs, take on financial burdens, and fight through bureaucratic barriers just to ensure their loved ones receive basic care. Every email sent, conversation started, and action taken amplifies the voices of those who too often go unheard.

By uniting today, we push for Long COVID programs in independent living services, stronger protections in schools and workplaces, and increased public health efforts that support both patients and caregivers. Children deserve safe learning environments, access to appropriate medical care, and accommodations that allow them to thrive. Adults with Long COVID need better workplace protections, disability benefits, and access to proper medical care. Caregivers—whether supporting a child, partner, parent, or friend—deserve recognition, support, and resources to continue their vital role.

Take action today to demand change. Join C19LAP & Dr. Michael Osterholm at 3 PM EST for a critical conversation on the state of COVID-19 in 2025, reflecting on lessons learned, policy failures, and the need for stronger protections moving forward. Contact your State Centers for Independent Living (CILs) & Statewide Independent Living Councils (SILCs) to push for Long COVID programs that offer necessary services for affected individuals. Reach out to your school district’s superintendent & school board to share information on Long COVID and advocate for stronger protections, accommodations, and support in schools. Help children engage with awareness efforts by sharing the Long COVID & Disability Coloring Book. Show appreciation for all Long COVID caregivers—those caring for children, partners, parents, and loved ones who rely on them for daily support.

Support the fight for both children and adult caregivers. Donate to C19LAP to help drive advocacy for school protections, independent living resources, and public health initiatives so that no one is left behind.

A day for Recognizing the Failures or Successes
of Public Health

Public health exists to protect, inform, and serve communities, yet for millions with Long COVID, it has been a system of failure rather than support. Five years into the pandemic, public health institutions have downplayed the severity of Long COVID, failed to address its long-term impact, and ignored the urgent need for prevention, treatment, and care. The rollback of COVID protections, unsafe healthcare environments, lack of funding for research and patient support, and the continued denial of airborne transmission have all contributed to worsening health outcomes for millions. At the same time, some public health leaders, clinicians, and local agencies have stepped up, proving that science-driven policies and patient-centered care can make a difference.

Today, we hold public health institutions accountable—both for their failures and for the progress that some have made. The inaction of health leaders has prolonged suffering, but our advocacy can push them to prioritize Long COVID research, implement safer healthcare policies, and restore necessary protections for vulnerable populations. Every message sent, every demand made, and every voice raised challenges the systemic neglect of Long COVID and pushes for a public health response that truly serves all people.

Take action today by contacting HHS Secretary Kennedy and other HHS agencies, urging them to take immediate action on Long COVID, allocate funding for research, and implement stronger public health protections. Engage with your local, state, and tribal health departments, reminding them of their role in addressing Long COVID and advocating for community-driven policies that ensure healthcare access, workplace protections, and public health accountability. Advocate for safer healthcare environments by reaching out to hospitals and medical offices, urging them to implement masking policies to protect both patients and providers from continued reinfections and worsening health outcomes. Finally, support the fight for public health accountability by donating to C19LAP, helping fund patient-led advocacy, research initiatives, and direct engagement with policymakers to push for a stronger, more effective public health response.

Public health should be a system of protection, not neglect. We cannot afford to let leadership ignore the crisis of Long COVID. It’s time to demand accountability, push for real change, and fight for the protections that should have been in place all along.

A day for Public Visibility, Support, & Mourning

Long COVID has taken millions of lives, stolen health, careers, and futures, and continues to devastate individuals and families worldwide. Yet, five years later, those affected are still being dismissed, neglected, and erased from the public conversation. Today, we honor the lives lost, support those still fighting, and demand visibility for a crisis that should never have been ignored.

This day is about recognition, remembrance, and action. While mourning those we have lost, we must also uplift those still suffering, call attention to the failures that have led to this ongoing crisis, and fight to ensure Long COVID is no longer treated as an afterthought. Public visibility is crucial—every conversation, post, and event helps break the silence and forces the world to acknowledge our reality.

Take action today by organizing or attending a COVID-safe, disability-friendly event—vigils, picnics, photo opportunities, demonstrations, teal light-up events, or street teams distributing masks and information to raise awareness. Show appreciation for researchers and clinicians working to prevent, treat, and find a cure for Long COVID by publicly thanking them and highlighting their contributions. Finally, donate or encourage others to contribute—helping sustain critical research, advocacy efforts, and support programs for those impacted by Long COVID.

We refuse to let Long COVID be forgotten. Today, we stand in solidarity, remembrance, and unwavering determination to push for change. We grieve, we support, and we fight—until no one suffering from Long COVID is left behind.

Long COVID Awareness Day, Five Years Later

Did you know that for many, COVID-19 is a gateway to lifelong disability? Long COVID is not just a lingering symptom—it is a mass-disabling event that has altered the lives of over 60 million people in the U.S. and 400 million worldwide. Five years later, there are no cures. Five years later, there are no treatments. Five years later, COVID-19 cases remain higher than they were at the start of the pandemic, with reinfections increasing the risk of developing Long COVID. Yet, instead of expanding resources, Long COVID programs that just got off the ground are now being rolled back.

We are witnessing a catastrophic failure of public health policy at a time when we are still facing continued circulating viruses—many of which pose their own pandemic risks. The rollback of research funding, disability protections, and public health mitigation isn’t just harmful—it’s deadly. Disability rates in the U.S. have risen by 35% since 2020, with Long COVID as a primary driver. The economic toll is staggering, costing the U.S. at least $1 trillion annually in lost wages, disability benefits, and healthcare expenses. Long COVID is breaking families, communities, and entire industries, yet leadership continues to ignore, defund, and dismantle the very programs meant to address it.

We cannot "make America healthy again" by disabling it. We cannot recover while failing to invest in research, prevention, and workplace protections. The only way to prevent Long COVID is to prevent COVID-19 infections, yet federal policies continue to remove essential protections like indoor air quality improvements, access to high-filtration masks, and widespread testing. The public has been abandoned to navigate an ongoing pandemic without clear guidance, protections, or support.

Today, on Long COVID Awareness Day, we demand recognition, action, and justice. We refuse to let this crisis be erased.

Join C19LAP’s Moment of Silence from 3:10-3:20 PM EST, with a collective pause at 3:15 PM EST to honor those impacted and those we have lost. Share Long COVID facts and personal stories every hour from 8 AM to 11 PM EST to ensure continuous visibility. Wear teal and Long COVID Awareness gear to spark conversations and show solidarity. Flood social media with #LongCOVIDAwareness2025 to demand recognition and action. Post about your participation in events and actions throughout the week to inspire others to get involved. Attend virtual gatherings, including Q&As, webinars, trivia, and support spaces. Finally, donate to support the fight—Long COVID advocacy, education, and research urgently need funding to continue the battle for recognition, treatment, and policy change.

Five years later, we are still sick, still fighting, and still demanding action. We will not stop until the world listens.

A Day of Rest, A Lifetime of Advocacy

Thank you. Thank you for showing up, for speaking out, for standing with us, and for amplifying #LongCOVIDAwareness2025. Your voices, actions, and unwavering support have made an impact. This past week, we have honored the millions affected by Long COVID, fought against systemic neglect, and demanded the recognition and action we deserve.

But while today is a day of rest—a day to breathe, reflect, and honor the immense effort put into Long COVID Awareness Week and Day—our fight is far from over. Five years later, Long COVID remains an ongoing public health crisis, a mass-disabling event, and an economic catastrophe. The battle for research, treatments, protections, and recognition is not one that ends after a single week of advocacy. It continues—not just through the rest of the month, but every single day.

We rest today because this fight requires endurance. We pace ourselves because the road ahead is long. We regroup because Long COVID advocacy is not just a moment—it is a movement. The erasure of Long COVID is deliberate. The rollbacks of research funding, healthcare protections, and disability benefits are calculated. That is why we cannot afford to stop.

We continue to educate, advocate, and demand action. We continue to fight for research, for treatments, for protections in healthcare and workplaces, and for policies that recognize the true impact of Long COVID. We continue because lives depend on it.

So today, we rest. But tomorrow, we rise.
