2024 Comprehensive Guide to Long COVID
The COVID-19 Longhauler Advocacy Project is dedicated to supporting those affected by long COVID through comprehensive resources and the latest information. Our new guide, the C19LAP Comprehensive Guide to Long COVID V2 - expanded from our V1 Guide - has been meticulously updated and expanded to ensure it addresses the evolving needs of our community. We believe in empowering individuals with knowledge and access to support systems that can make a real difference in their journey to recovery.
The 2024 Comprehensive Guide to Long COVID is our second volume, first developed in 2021. Nearly five years into the pandemic, public messaging and education on Long COVID remains inadequate, leaving critical gaps in understanding and addressing this condition's long-term impacts. C19LAP focuses on filling these gaps through education for clinicians, researchers, government officials, payers, employers, and schools. This guide aims to equip all stakeholders, especially patients and caregivers, with the knowledge and tools to navigate Long COVID.
The guide provides essential information on COVID-19 prevention, testing, treatment, and documentation. It introduces Long COVID, outlining its causes, symptoms, associated conditions, and recommended specialists. It helps patients recognize symptoms and prepare for appointments, while offering access to Long COVID care, support groups, and research opportunities.
The guide offers strategies for self-advocacy, securing accommodations, and combating discrimination. It encourages participation in research and policy advocacy while highlighting the role of medical professionals in patient care. The guide also outlines how to navigate living with chronic illness and access support services.
Additionally, it discusses the needs of the Long COVID community and suggests ways the government can support patients. By dispelling myths and sharing community advice, the guide empowers patients to manage their condition. It also includes information on joining and supporting C19LAP’s mission and community chapters.
